AMS Chelsea Publishing: An Imprint of the American Mathematical Society. This classic book is a treatise on the topology of curves. The class of curves considered is quite broad, including smooth curves, rational curves, trees, Cantor curves and so on. It was one of a small handful of landmark books on topology, in particular point-set topology, that were published during the important period of the 1930s. Many of the properties of curves explored by Menger are of renewed importance today in various contexts, notably the topology of dynamics.

The book is profound, accurate, and contains a splendid collection of exercises (again from the Preface: "I spent at least three times as much effort in preparing them as I did on the main text itself"). Karl R. Stromberg is co-author (with his teacher Edwin Hewitt) of another very great book entitled "Real and Abstract Analysis". Thanks, professor Stromberg; this is one of the best books on Mathematics I have ever read.

Carl Menger (/ˈmɛŋɡər/; German: ; February 23, 1840 – February 26, 1921) was an Austrian economist and the founder of the Austrian School of economics. Menger contributed to the development of the theory of marginalism (marginal utility), which rejected the cost-of-production theories of value, such as were developed by the classical economists such as Adam Smith and David Ricardo. As a departure from such, he would go on to call his resultant perspective, the "Subjective Theory of Value".
Karl Menger's father, Carl Menger (1840-1921) was a famous economist, a professor at the University of Vienna, and founder the Austrian School of Economics. Back in Vienna, Menger published Kurventheorie Ⓣ in 1932. Karl's mother was Hermine Andermann (1869-1924), a journalist, author and musician. Carl was Roman Catholic and Hermine was Jewish so, although they lived together, the two could not marry (all marriages in Austria at this time were religious ceremonies). Wallace Alvin Wilson writes :- The book under discussion is to be the second volume of a work entitled 'Mengentheoretische Geometrie'.

A very basic understanding of algebraic topology is assumed (and outlined in AppendiX A).
