Slippin' Into Darkness. If only things were that easy.

In a small California town, a carnival roustabout takes a one-way road to vengeance behind the wheel of a car once owned by a notorious serial killer. In Hollywood, a struggling actor makes a desperate play for the biggest of scores at a dead celebrities costume party. Norman Partridge's first story collection, Mr. Fox and Other Feral Tales, won a Bram Stoker Award, and his first novel, Slippin' Into Darkness, garnered the highest praise from horror critics; so it's no surprise that this second collection is a knockout.

And then came the single echo the pitcher wanted to hear: the musical voice of a cheerleader begging him to put one over the fence. It was not a bat that he held in his big hands, but in his mind he imagined that it was. The crack of the bat. He wanted to hear it. The roar of the crowd. He could hear it still. April was here, asleep in the ground. And it was opening day. 1:12 .

What an excellent story this was. The characters were some incredibly messed up people, but there were a few that I came to care about, oddly enough. Poor April and Steve. I enjoyed the ending. It really was the best possible end. Yep, I'd recommend this book and this Author. I plan on reading more from Mr. Partridge. A lot more!

This was a great read. It was very original, not a cookie cutter horror story. The characters were great. I highly recommend it.

This was, quite simply, one of the more original novels I've read in quite some time. Again, gotta love Partridge's terse, tight narrative, and I like how he balanced the line here: very faint supernatural elements, but really, the only "haunts" in this novel are memories that dog all of the characters. Partridge continues to take me new places, and this is a good thing.

I was very entertained with this book! It had great elements of horror and it the author wasn't afraid to push the envelope at times. This book is definitely not for the weak of heart. If you like darker themed horror novels, then this one is definitely for you!

This wasn't a bad story, but somehow I just couldn't get into it. The plot was interesting enough, but something about the author's style just didn't click with me.

Great story! Partridge weaves a web of disparate characters bringing them together in the end. An intense tale of revenge for a high school incident that brings all the parties back together years later...and exacts retribution for a life changed forever because of that incident. Highly recommended.
