Barbara Lillias Romaine Anderson, Lady Anderson (née Wright, 14 April 1926 – 24 March 2013) was a New Zealand fiction writer who became internationally recognized despite her first book being published in her sixties. Born Barbara Lillias Romaine Wright in Hastings, she was educated at the University of Otago where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1947. In 1951, she married Neil Anderson, a Royal New Zealand Navy officer later to become Chief of New Zealand Defence Staff

Barbara Anderson was one of New Zealand’s best-selling novelists, fiction and short stories writers, who published her first book in her sixties. Anderson’s work has been characterized as a fascinating mix of careful omission, sharp observation and dark humor. Also, she worked as a science teacher and medical technologist for many years. During the period from 1964 till 1967, she worked as a science teacher at Queen Margaret’s College in Wellington.
