The Saffron Kitchen book. This book is almost comparable to The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Yasmin Crowther doesn't quite pull you in to the story like Khaled Hosseini does but it's an excellent try and great first novel.

The Saffron Kitchen marks Yasmin Crowther out as a novelist of exceptional honesty and grace. Though Crowther builds an evocative portrait of Iran and the painful pull of two cultures, too much of the novel hinges on an overly enigmatic character and her vague longing for the indefinable idea of home. a wonderfully intricate debut novel. powerfully depicts Maryam's wrenching romantic and nationalistic longings, exploring the potency of heritage and the pain of exile.

Great story of a mothers journey and her daughter coming to understand. Although I don't like the mothers choice I respect it. The daughter caught between parents she loves. Interesting read!
I really enjoyed the book, but at times it was somewhat confusing who the author was talking about. It also went back an force from present time to years before, which was somewhat confusing. I really enjoyed the story, but would have enjoyed it more if timeline would have been clearer. It did make me very compassionate for how the children in Iran were treated an disciplined. This has really made me appreciate even more, being raised by a loving family in the USA.
A beautifully crafted story about a young woman who was forced to leave Iran after being falsely accused. She makes her way in America but longs for home.
I actually really liked this book.

It gives an impression of simple writing but it touches mother/daughter relations and the often misundertood issues (and who doesnt have them!) and the intricacies of living in diferent cultures, i would say the no man's land syndrome!

Whilst reading this book, it almost felt like i was hearing out someone, just when you chat with a friend and hear their story.

Lovely book, i have decided that i will re read it again next year!
It was an easy read. Not thrilled with the ending.
This book is about real life-- no simple choices. We are all a product of our upbringing, and to really understand someone, you must understand their past.

Excellent weaving of two worlds and cultures, and the universal connector, love.
Small book with beautiful story. Sad and poignant
A truly wonderful book.
