Author Sheldon Siegel has "a new challenge for defense attorney Mike Daley--ex-priest, ex-husband, ex-public defender--and it’s a high-profile zinger: a case he doesn’t think he can win for a client he can’t stand."

San Francisco District Attorney Prentice Marshall Gates III is front-runner for California Attorney General. Mike Daley is the last person who would expect a call from Gates, so he is surprised to hear from him. He is even more surprised to learn that Gates has been arrested. Gates says he woke up in his hotel room next to the body of a dead young male prostitute — he has no idea who he was or how he got there. Prosecutors in his own office are already gathering evidence to proceed with a death-penalty case...

Mike, his law partner, ex-wife Rosie Fernandez and the new third attorney in their law practice, (Mike's ex-girlfriend) Carolyn O’Malley take the case. The more they dig into the evidence, the more it seems that Gates is lying (and, if his lips are moving, you KNOW Gates is lying). As the case progresses, he NEVER admits he is lying until AFTER he is "caught out" by evidence that comes to light. However, even if he is lying, it is his attorneys' job to defend him to the best of their ability (even for the most heinous of all crimes — murder)...

Carolyn does not get mentioned a lot in this book, but I assume we will see more of her as the series progresses. An attorney working in a partnership with his ex-wife and his ex-girlfriend should be interesting (therapy, anyone?)...

This story takes place from the rich neighbourhoods of San Francisco to the dangerous and often deadly "underworld" of the Mission District — with it's prostitutes and drug pushers...

Mr. Siegel is a masterful storyteller — I like that most of the book took place in the courtroom — while even the major characters are gathering evidence as the trial takes place. The plot is well thought out, the characters are believable and the topic addressed is interesting. The story holds your interest, details are vivid. While you read, you can visualise the story taking place in your head, much like a movie (if your imagination is anything like mine). It "feels" more real to me if I have all the necessary details so I can follow story from beginning to end...

There are plenty of twists and turns to satisfy even the pickiest reader. The action switches between low-octane to adrenaline-fuelled with ease. The suspense will keep you turning the pages — you simply must know what happens next...

I HIGHLY recommend author Sheldon Siegel and this series (A Mike Daley/Rosie Fernandez Novel series). Mr. Siegel has gained another fan — as long as he writes, I will read.

I started with Special Circumstances, liked it (yes, a little overly-dramatic, but isn't that why we read fiction?), moved on to Incriminating Evidence. I'm intrigued by a lawyer/author of (apparently) Jewish ancestry writing legal thrillers w main characters who are a. Of Irish ancestry, priest cum attorney (but son of a cop, of course!) and b. A feisty, level-headed Latina lawyer. And they are divorced but still entangled, legal and otherwise. Although there was a bit of redundancy from the first book to the second I was on the hook enough to finish, and glad I did. I particularly like the honesty with which he portrays Mike's inner thoughts. Looking forward to see where Mike and Rosie go next!

Terribly disappointing. I loved #1, but this was terribly laborious. I kept reading because I liked his first book so much, but by 50% I was considering ditching it .... then decided to finish it, but I'm serious, this was a very tedious book and the subject matter is NOT one that I enjoy reading about under any circumstances. I'm not wasting my time on #3. I have #4 already waiting on my kindle, but will skip it since it was free. I hate wasting time on mediocre books when there are so many great ones waiting!

It was while reading Incriminating Evidence, that I purchased four more of the books in this series. I appreciated the story, the writing style, the lack of "smutty" language--understanding that some of that is going to be characteristic of some characters in the story--and the general "clean" language in the book. Obviously, Sheldon Siegel has a great command of the English language and needs not to resort to such smut! I am a huge fan of mysteries and these have made me a fan of Siegel. I look forward to reading more--have since completed Special Circumstances--also an exceptionally good read--and am now beginning Criminal Intent.

This booking is a can't put down type of book.the author is right up there with child, lescroarte and other great mysterywriters.the story contains many character is court room drama.a strange murder of a male hooker and many persons who would like to bring down an important da. The court room drama keeps you guessing as to who would gain the most out of this grime trial and conviction. Excellent read, leaves wanting to order this author.s next book

When was a third of the way through "Incriminating Evidence" I was ready to give it up. I had just gotten this far in my fourth one and it was always the same. His observations on life, his references to other characters in the SF legal community--all the same, often identical language.

The only thing different was the specific crime, that was interesting, very intersting. Still, he was going to be in desperate straights and have to pull the whole thing out by the end of the Preliminary Hearing, he'd done it twice in a row.

Then I got to the "Prelim" and there was still half of the book left. So, he's not the deepest part of the writing pool, but the last half of the book shows where Sheldon Siegel can get to in a mystery when he puts his whole mind to it. He wrote a gripping court drama and a complex tale that keeps your mind engaged to the very end.

Thank you, Sheldon Siegel!
