For Brooke and Zachary, two great kids. The Indirect Approach.

He picked up the phone, thought about calling his sister Karen and his father, but then put the receiver down and decided to wait. They were probably at church anyway. Instead he grabbed a Budweiser from its dominant and nearly solitary place in the refrigerator, and walked through the back door onto his wood deck. From the deck he could see his land slope away to the south and west, toward the Blue Ridge and toward Stanardsville, his family home 90 miles away. He could also see his makeshift batting cage about 100 feet away.

When Special Forces Colonel Zachary Garrett leads a team of commandos into an enemy base-camp inside forbidden Pakistan territory, the ensuing combat destroys his helicopter and all its occupants. After military officers notify his estranged daughter, 17-year-old Amanda Garrett, of her father's death, she is apathetic until they mention a $500,000 life insurance payout. But there's a catch: before she can collect her cash, Amanda must visit revered psychiatrist Riley Dwyer for counseling. With his eyes on Amanda's coming bonanza, Spartanburg, SC bad-boy Del Dangurs keeps close tabs on Amanda and the long hoped-for windfall. Meanwhile, Matt Garrett, Amanda's uncle, leaves his CIA post and arrives in Afghanistan to recover Zachary's remains. With hopeful evidence in hand, Matt continues the search for his brother as physical reminders of him are being destroyed or attacked back home, including Riley, who holds her own secrets close. After reading the series, I have to say that Hidden Threat was the icing on a exquisite cake. About half way through I had hope, just like Amanda. This novel had me crying, evoking memories of my own military times and that of my husband. Believe me when I say that you will be enriched reading this book, but the best e experience would be to start at the beginning. For A. J. Tata, keep on writing.

Wow! I am blown away by the writing skills of A.J. Tata. I didn't think the first two books in the "Threat" series could be topped, but I do believe the third book, "Hidden Threat", may have blown it out of the park.

While "Hidden Threat" does have quite a few similiarities with the first two books (ie: the Garrett brothers serving their country proudly overseas and all around the world), it is also takes on quite a different twist with bringing in the "life on the homefront" reality.

We are introduced to Zach Garrett's daughter, Amanda, and encounter what a traumatic life she has encountered. This book shows how a blossoming young woman is torn between two worlds -- a "stable" life with her mother/grandmother and the whole environment surrounding a modern-day, spoiled teenager vs. an "unknown" life with what could've been with her military-hero father, whom she hates with a passion.

It is quite interesting to watch the evolution of Amanda's character throughout the book from the spoiled brat that you just wanted to slap through the book to a mature young woman who realizes how much like her father she truly is. As much as I liked the action, adventure and thrill-seeking of the first two books, and while this book did feature quite a lot of that, as well, it also made you ponder what the families of the military servicemen and women go through on a day-to-day basis. Hopefully many do not encounter the situations that Amanda Garrett endured, but I am sure there are some out there.

Another great piece of work by A.J. Tata. Superb job!

This a good read. The story covers just about all the problems a person could have, and then some. The author does a good job of keeping them all separate.

Confusing at times, had to retrace to comprehend. Good plot and concept for an action read, just not my reading style. thanks.

A fine novel with a good story, right off todays headlines. Predictable but fun nevertheless. The characters are well- developed.

I enjoyed reading how a self-involved teen developes into a decent young woman who reignites a relationship with her father who is a general. The Pakistan and Afghan story line was well written. There is something for most people in this book. Well done.
If you like Clancy, you'll love these books by Tony Tata. As a U.S. Army general who served in Afghanistan, he is a master of the subject, the circumstances, the weaponry, and what goes on behind the curtain.
