Reviews about The Doomwood Curse (Doctor Who) (2):

In order to avoid being punished by overzealousd librarians from the Universe's largest library for accidentally burning the 19th Century classic novel Rockwood, the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and Charley lay in a course for the 19th century to pick up an original to return, but find themselves in the time of the book, They meet a nice English upper class family who are normal enough, but then Charley and nearly everyone begins acting like they're in a novel and things get weird.

Colin Baker has said that Patrick Troughton was his favorite doctor and this story has shades of, "The Mind Robbers," though it's still a very different story in many ways. There's a good deal of mystery in the story and a lot of fun as every character is, at one time or another, pulled into the fictional world, so the cast gets to have fun with this. While the menace behind the whole thing could tedious as a recurring Who villain, as one episode villain, they were actually pretty fun, with just enough menace to keep the story interesting.

This is just another solid Sixth Doctor and Charley story and I look forward to the next.

Several interesting turns in the story as Charlie fits into the Tardis once again doing her best to act like she is seeing it all for the first time. The "This must be related to your amniesa" bit is interesting as it not only shows the complexity of hiding facts from the Doctor but is a threat to throw him on the wrong track.

As always the performances are strong the CD features are interesting and the new aliens are a lot of fun.

If the quality of the 6th doctor + Charley keeps up it might spell employment issues for Frobisher, Peri, Evelyn and Mel.

Buy it.
