Another wonderful book from Frank Hebert, a master in the genre. It is not a science fiction. It rather defies any sort of parameter and categorization. I think this sort of a narrative could only be written by a first hand witness, or someone who was involved in the events themselves. Or someone with uncanny imagination such as Frank. In any case, the book came at a right time, and as a I have read it before, I gave it to someone else. I suggest getting "Soul Catcher" as it is an adventure, very different from anything that I have read, mainly because it is so dense and real. It is about shedding an old skin and emerging true.

Both sides of the European/Native American situation and how the thinking and feelings of both have been influenced by the history of this relationship. How can these cultures be compatible? Understand another relationship, the one of being stewards of the land, and responsible for it's health. Well told story.

I read this book many years ago. The story had the most amazing, surprising ending, completely unexpected. Never saw it coming honestly. A brilliant story from a genius story teller. One of Herbert's best works, and I have always been a fan of Herbert's. This book is worthy of a movie. Hope one day soon they make it. I waited for 45 years for a movie of Tolkiens " Lord of the Rings, I can wait a bit longer for Herbert. Much shorter than Dune, which was destroyed entirely in the production to movie, but a story that is better written. Pure genius in it's simplicity. Not about Science fiction here, it's about human nature. A real glimpse into, us.. Held loosely together , until the ending transforms it into an incredible story.

I am a great fan of Frank Herbert's science fiction novels, especially his Dune saga, but also his other works. Having heard that Soul Catcher was not a work of science fiction I delayed reading it. A mistake. I should have guessed it would be another brilliant book by an author who is greatly missed.

First off, Dune is my favorite scifi novel, and Frank Herbert is one of my favorite authors. I won't go into the plot details of this book because there really isn't anything too complex going on. The book had a good balance of action/dialogue/monologue and of course Frank's descriptions of the wilderness and everything were great and vivid, like always. I gave it 3 stars because I don't feel it was totally developed. I would have loved if Frank had inferred a bit more background information on this whole "spirit world" thing, and the "characters" of Bee and Raven. Throughout the whole book I felt like I should feel that what Katsuk was doing was somehow profound, but to me it just looked like he was pissed off at white people and gonna kill a white kid. I mean honestly, I'm sure there were plenty of native Americans who did that hundreds of years ago. Maybe I didn't pay close enough attention to the story, but I just couldn't infer from the vague "spirit world" sequences what was actually going on.

I read it a very long time ago and recently bought it to re-read and pass on to a friend.
A memorable book with great authenticity.
