The flight test book is a bit better for flight testers. This is by far the best book on the subject of flighttesting in my opinion.
The flight test book is a bit better for flight testers. In a very clear and pleasant way, Stinton presents the subjects, with some important insights into how to plan and execute a flight-test campaign, the usual difficulties and the likely outcomes. Some readers might find some of the techniques old-fashioned, mainly in the context of fully olled airplanes, but even then this is the best starting point for learning why airplanes must be flight-tested and why its flying qualities are so important.

This volume is probably unparalleled in the notoriously difficult field of flight testing" AEROSPACE. This book, by a highly experienced test pilot and design engineer, provides a clear, simple guide on performance, handling qualities and "trouble-shooting". It concentrates on two broad areas of aircraft fitted mainly with manual flying controls. Firstly, it deals with the flying qualities and airworthiness testing of aeroplanes ranging from microlights and homebuilts up to the 19,000 lb (8600 kg) public transport commuter.

Having only recently been introduced to Darrol Stinton's books, I was saddened to read that he passed away last . Darrol was an ex-Blackburn apprentice, test pilot and vice president of the Historic Aircraft Association.
Having only recently been introduced to Darrol Stinton's books, I was saddened to read that he passed away last month, particularly as I had just discovered he had lived only a short walk from me. His works included 'The Anatomy of the Airplane' and 'The Design of the Airplane' and are must reads for anyone interested in light aircraft conceptual design.
