Vermont artist Stephen Huneck's black Labrador Sally indulges all the typical canine passions: for food, sleeping on the couch, barking for no reason, chasing cats, but especially the unconditional love and loyalty for her human companion.

Stephen Huneck's beloved black Labrador, Sally, has spawned a whole series of successful children's books, as well as woodcut prints, mugs, T-shirts, stationery, sculpture, tote bags, and even rugs, but the genesis of this world was his now-classic first book, My Dog's Brain. In it, Huneck illustrates the predicaments, pleasures, and appetites that make up a dog's life, whether it's sleeping on the couch, stealing a lick from an ice cream cone, or barking for no good reason.

This hilarious adventure into the mind of an everyday dog will delight dog lovers. Enter Into The Canine Psyche. com User, July 26, 2006. This book features Stephen Huneck's brilliant canine wood block prints.

The prints are very entertaining and thematically fall into sections called "The Parts of the Brain," "The Two Hemispheres of the Brain," and "The Powers of the Brain." While I loved the whole book, I really liked "The Powers of the Brain," as I think it has the most insight into the minds of pets, and dogs in particular. I especially appreciate the prints "They sense when you are going away," and "They know when you need love."

This is a great book not only because it's fun, but because it deals with the bond between people and their pets so effectively. I highly endorse this book and give it five unequivocal stars.

Not much to it. A few drawings and a couple pages of text

Cute. Nice art. Moderately entertaining. But the kind of book that once given, is pretty much destined to be enjoyed once - and re-gifted to adults. Bought for my grandkids, but rather than having it shipped directly to them, as I usually do, had it - fortunately - shipped to me first. Conclusion: Not for kids unless you're up to explaining a "Menage a Trois" caption on the otherwise benign visual content. Absent the "menage, rating would have been higher.

Anyone who is a dog lover would appreciate this book. I came across this book staying at the paw house inn in Vermont. I gave this book to a friend as a gift, I knew she would love the book because she is a dog lover herself. The art work in the book are from the author himself who designed and carved each print which gives book a quality that you might see in other books.

I thought the book "MY DOG'S BRAIN" was great fun when it first came out. It was a favorite gift for me to give my dog loving friends so I was glad to see that the book is back in print. I just received the new version with 8 new pages. I have to say "Menage a Trois" is now my favorite page replacing "Greetings" as funniest. It is so funny because it's true. Every dog owner will recognize themselves. While often hilarious, not all the pages are for laughs, some are quite touching like "They know when you need love." Colorful artwork and simple text get to the heart or should I say brain of a dog.
I know this book for a while, first I saw it in the waiting room in my Vet's office. I ifell in love with it and bought it for me at first and this copy for my friend, who is also a dog lover.
