The Treehouse Diaries book. Nick Weston escaped from the London rat race to live entirely. The Treehouse Diaries chronicles his real-life adventure: from constructing a treehouse (complete with hot shower and compost bathroom) to planting a vegetable patch and brewing his own beer. There's practical information on every project he undertook, Nick Weston escaped from the London rat race to live entirely off the land in a secret location deep in the woods.

The book is written in a diary format with a series of "how tos" in boxed sections .

The book is written in a diary format with a series of "how tos" in boxed sections throughout the book, as well as some background knowledge of various plants and animals. I enjoyed these tidbits of info and might even have a go at a few of the recipes myself. If Nick had started off with some very explicit restrictions in the beginning, only to break them later on after finding them too difficult (and perhaps journalling any internal conflicts and reactions to these self-imposed rules), I would have had more respect for him.

The inspiring story of Nick Weston's quest to find dulfilment by building a tree house and living off the land. How nick built his treehouse. Nick's biggest single expense was the £170 he spent on lengths of new timber for the foundations of his treehouse. The longest planks were bolted onto the side of the tree at a height of . m (7½ft), using five coach screws on each side, and the shorter planks were rested on top of them and also screwed into the tree. I had higher hopes for this one,This book is mostly pictures and diagrams . First off it is very much full of great pics of the area around his tree house and his living space. ,It shows how he constructed all of the contraptions like the stove and how he hunted small game and fished. However it would be more interesting if it was a real day to day account with more background . It almost seems like he did it just to make a book about woods living and then move on as he only stayed six months. Some of the information is use full , and one of the things I commend is that he explains up front he was not going off grid for political/environmental reasons and he was not against using power tools to build the house or kill rabbits etc. to eat.So If you can get this book for a few dollars I do recommend it.
Simple fellow
Many photos, good read....some of it is redundant within the same book itself, but I,still enjoyed it a lot....a very interesting

This is the best book I have read in a long time, I read it within a few days which is fairly uncommon for me.

The writing style allows you to feel like you are right there with him, through the ups and downs.
This book is full of great recipes using foraged food and wild game, including recipes for nettle beer, cider, and other alcoholic beverages.
Nick (the author) has a vision to escape the hustle and bustle of London, and decides to take the rest of his money and build a tree house in the middle of the woods in England.
There are a number of tips throughout the book that range from how to identify wild plants/ mushrooms, how to skin and gut a rabbit, food preservation techniques, building furniture and a wood burning stove, outdoor ovens, to detailed plans plans for the tree house construction, and more.

I'm a 31 year old man with 2 small children, an adventure like this is not entirely possible for me, but it was fun to be a part of this adventure, and I found valuable inspiration throughout the book.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an escape for the routine of everyday modern life.
