It's very detailed, but also complicated. Although that's probably the nature of hair cutting and not the fault of the book. The section on cutting children's hair seems very good, so I would absolutely recommend it if you're a parent and want to cut your kid's hair. I haven't attempted to cut my own hair yet, and kinda doubt that I will. But if I did, this book does have a lot of pointers and tips.

I wish there were more photos and less line drawings for the steps. This has been better as an introduction to the concepts, the instructions for the actual haircuts (about a third of the book) are too complicated and not well-illustrated. But I bought it for under a dollar, so how much can I really complain? It's served its purpose for the most part in getting me confident enough to take scissors and clippers to myself and others without any disasters.

I have been "cutting" my family's hair for years, and hoped this book would help me learn to take it up a notch.
I like the step by step instructions, and the author's witty writing, but think it would be more helpful to have pictures to go along with the vocabulary.

I probably wouldn't have bought this book if I'd been able to flip through it at a bookstore....as a beginner, I think there aren't enough pictures and/or diagrams to illustrate the instructions and techniques.

Too complicated and full of nonsense the typical mom who wants to cut her own hair or kids hair does not need to know. Just get a video for free on YouTube.

I cut my husband's hair, and was looking for some good direction for cutting and blending the back of mens hair, especially neckline and around the ears. This book could have been ever so much better if there were photos of actual hair cutting...how the hands are positioned, how the scissors are positioned, how the hair is actually held, what direction to cut in, etc.

The book contains mostly drawings of cutting guides and how you should part the hair to do the cutting. I think these drawings are more beneficial for professionals. And although there are one or two drawings of the things I think would be most helpful (described above), they do not take place of photos (or series of photos) actually showing how it is done. The few photos that are included are of finished styles.

While I did get one great tip from it, this book is not that helpful for people at home cutting their family's hair. I have liked other "Dummies" books, but I feel like I wasted my money on this one.

The writer obviously knows what she's talking about but some of the directions are a little difficult to follow - needed more pictures of those steps.
I bought this book because I wanted to learn how to cut my own hair since I am handicapped
and it is difficult for me to go to a beauty salon. I read the book and it's directions are easy to follow.
If you cut your children's hair it has may great tips for us do it at homer's. Easy to follow instructions.
I am very pleased with this purchase
