This book contains "Carrots Love Tomatoes" and "Roses Love Garlic" in one book. That keeps the information together and you don't have to remember which book had the information you want to review. The information seems good, but I have not yet planted anything using the suggestions in the book. Plants are described in a basic manner and the hardiness zones are not listed in the description. The topics are covered in a general manner and include among others; vegetables, flowers, soil improvement, plant pest control, plant uses such as medicine and dyes, and plant propagation. I think this is a good book for getting started in gardening or to learn more about companion planting. It is available used at reasonable prices - get a hard cover edition.
Be aware that this edition of the book is printed in very small print size (8 point ?). I found the green colored ink, used to print the text, was also a little difficult to read.

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this book! I am a tactile and visual person so usually, if it doesn't have pictures, I don't buy it. I knew a little of what I was buying because I had seen both Carrots Love Tomatoes and Roses Love Garlic separately at a seed store. I've really been interested in the companion planting process to have more successful gardens so my husband and I were excited to see the combined book with all the secrets. From the moment I unwrapped this book I've used it at least every other day even to the point of taking it outside with me while planting. After it spent all of Saturday outside on my porch where I kept it protected from the dirt and my dogs I sat on my newly cleaned front porch wanting to follow up on a few things when I noticed a bird had come along and placed a nice SPLAT on the cover! At first I thought book lovers of the world would be gasping in horror at the mistreatment of my book but then I realized the author of this book INTENDED for us to USE this information not keeping it protected on a bookshelf. So, gardeners of the world, I challenge you to take your gardening books outside, use them for what they were intended and so what if you get a little bird splat or dirt on them, just wipe it off and maybe you'll have your place marked for the next time you want to refer to something. I find it an easy read, very informative, it covers a wide range of things so there aren't large descriptions on things but mostly enough to get what you're looking for. When buying books like this I always wonder where the author is collecting their information from, I'm in Missouri so books from Montana or Florida aren't exactly states I should be taking advice from. This author is from Oklahoma so we're pretty close to the same. I nearly forgot to mention the pictures, no, you won't find photos of vibrant colors and the largest vegetables you ever saw but you will find some of the most intricately drawn garden layouts. This is what I would call a comfortable read, you don't feel like she's talking over your head and she covers everything from the obvious vegetable, herb and flower gardening, pest control, natural uses including Easter egg coloring from your vegetables! This book was bought for my mom to replace softbound copies of the same two books, which had been loaned to someone and never returned years ago. She is enjoying reading this two-books-combined-into-one volume (besides it being hardbound, which to an ex-librarian is much more desirable than paperbacks) and says that it is great. She is learning quite a bit about why some things in her garden grow great with something beside it, but don't grow when planted elsewhere with another form of plant -- including why her yellow rose is really liking where it's at, surrounded by elephant garlic! She plans on revamping her veggie and flower gardens next year with the book's advice.

I love all the basic information in this book, would prefer some pictures but theirs so much easy to understand information. Good for the beginner to intermediate gardener. I accidentally came across this book looking up the idea of "companion planting" didn't know there was a term for it. I'm very excited to start this spring.

This is a very helpful guide to companion planting, but it would benefit from better organization and pictures. There are descriptive sections explaining what plants support one another, and a section that offers hand drawn garden plans (kind of cheesy but probably very dynamic at the original time this came out).

This book is awesome!! It has both Carrots love tomatoes and roses love garlic in one book rather than having to buy them seperate. It gives great info about what plants like or dislike other and what herbs protect from different pests. It talks about what weeds are beneficial (suprise dandelions aren't as bad as you thought) and how to keep different critters out of your garden.

The seller of this book was very quick to send it and I received it in less than 10 days. My son and I had decided at the last minute to plant a garden, so by time we received it, we were already moving ahead with the project. However, it did arrive in time for us to get some good use out of it. We found information that we were not aware of, such as planting cucumbers with your corn to help discourage the raccoons, not planting our tomatoes near the potato patch, using herbs and flowers to protect certain other plants, and etc. The garden is in, now all we have to do is to watch, weed, water and wait to see how all this plays out. I am sure that most novice gardeners will find this book as interesting and useful as we have.
Good read and the information seems logical but none of it seemed to do any good in our garden this year. I blame me though because youtube if full of this exact same information.
