The Gardener’s Guide to Growing and Storing Vegetable and Flower Seeds. Illustrations by Polly Alexander. These various arguments all seem to boil down to one main point: that you and I really aren’t smart enough to save seeds. Our grandparents did, as did their parents; as did countless generations reaching almost back to our ancestors who first swung out of a tree, but the plain truth is that the human line has petered out a bit, and that you and I aren’t capable of growing our own seeds. The suggested techniques for saving various seeds were well within the directives from our local Extension Office and the Ag Dept at the University of Georgia. Our Master Gardener group has partnered with the local public libraries to encourage residents to "check out" seeds for their home gardens and to save seed to restore the library supply. We will be hosting several events to educate our residents in the saving and storing of seeds. The book Saving Seeds: The Gardener's Guide to Growing and Storing Seeds is a valuable reference tool.

If you want to save money by saving and growing your own seeds, or are dedicated to preserving heirloom varieties for philosophical reasons, this book offers a wealth of sage, practical advice for propagating hundreds of species. It includes both food crops as well as ornamental flowers (which were not of much interest to me personally). The scientific aspects of things are approached on a folksy, easily approachable way without resorting to much technical jargon.

I bought this book so I could start harvesting my own seeds for vegetable gardening. This is the exact reference I was looking for. Each veggie detailed with instructions for selecting, protecting from cross polination, harvesting and storing. Lots of info for flowers too, but flower seed harvesting is much more straight forward, so I think it is covered appropriately.

A great resource, especially for someone living on the Mainland. I live in Hawaii and this book includes a lot of info that does not pertain to the islands. Basically, talking about seasons. There is valuable info though and worth the investment.

Found the book not as informative as I expected. Quite simple, good for a very beginning seed saver.

Would recommend to beginner.

Since my wife has requested ("instructed...lol!"), that I bring certain seeds home with me from my travels, I got this reference guide so I'd do it right (not screw it up... ;) ). So far, so good!
Theres a lot of great information in this book. However, I found it to be a little boring and dry.
