It was quilts made with silk flowers on them. No, it was not Fantasy Floral Quilts, nor in a Quilting Arts Magazine. You would take the silk flowers apart so they would lie flat, arrange them in the desired design. Then tulle was placed over that and I think then it was quilted to hold them in place. Does anyone know the name of the book that has that quilt idea, or perhaps have the book for sale. I would like to try it, but am not sure of the details. 10-03-2010, 09:02 PM grammyp. It was in a big book and the silk flower idea was just one of the chapters. Does anyone else know what book it might be?

Bonnie Lyn McCaffery's new book,Fantasy Floral Quilts, is the complete guide to her exciting new technique. Bonnie lays out a logical sequence of steps leading to the creation of one of a kind quilts. The possibilities are only hinted at by the dozens of full color photos of quilts made by Bonnie and her students.
Some quilting books are meant to assist in the making of a specific quilt. If all the steps are followed exactly, the resulting quilt will look like the illustration. That is not what this book does. If the steps which McCaffery so clearly lays out, are followed, the result will be as unique as the maker wishes. For those who are less daring, Bonnie includes a nine-block sampler and her wonderful fairy pattern.
It is all there: how to choose the best silk flowers, color and design possibilities, dealing with the background, creating branches and/or stems, the latest in embillishments, and hints on the quilting process. This book is both inspirational and enlightening.

A few of the quilts in this book are a bit unrealistic for bed quilts, but if you have any intention of making wall hangings, table runners, wreaths, or decorations, this book is wonderful. In particular, I enjoyed the fall leaves wreath and the christmas tree skirts.
The book provides a wonderful color varieation quilt that compares the same fabrics and flowers with different tuille colors. This is a fast and fun method of making a wall hanging and is a welcome break from my more tedious quilts.

You never knew how EASY a technique could be, and what a
beautiful piece you could create! Bonnie McCaffery's book
gives you step-by-step instructions, VERY clearly written,
to guide just about anyone to completion of a wall hanging
she can be justifiably proud of! At the Mid-Appalachian
Quilters workshop, I saw folks who were somewhat tentative
and a bit scared at first create the MOST beautiful works
you can imagine. . . and, you can too!

Well, she's done it again. Bonnie McCaffery's new book, Fantasy Floral Quilts is a great follow up to her first book, Fantasy Fabrics. This book has numerous beautiful pictures as examples & clear instructions for a unique technique. For those quilters interested in new ideas this book is a must have for their library.
Bonnie's book has many georgous pictures and ample directions for this technique that goes beyond the norm. In addition to uses in making art quilts, I'll be using the techniques with church banners. I'm seeing endless possibilities with this technique. WELL worth the cost.
