This is a good book if you like to have a broad overview of how to use notions in scrapbooking and card making. It covers a lot of different notions:

beads, fabrics, charms, ribbons, buttons, nature, wood, flowers, matte boards, envelopes/pockets, strings, wire, mini-books, sequins, tags, fibers, pins, metallic, miniatures, studs & brads, eyelets, frames, hinges, foam core

Each topic is covered in 2 pages, with more detailed examples in scrapbooking pages and less elaborate examples on cards. It describes how to get the effect, but doesn't go into great detail. However, the description is good enough for me, and I'm only a beginner.

This is a great book for me, because I'm just starting and I'm looking for design ideas and just general info. However, if you have a experienced scrapbooker, you may already know most of the techniques.

I also like the simple designs. They look great without taking too much effort. If you're into more elaborate designs, this may not work for you. I also like the color coordinations of the designs.

The photos used in the scrapbooking pages are also great and gives me ideas to pick photographs for my future scrapbook. I have also shared this info with my husband who takes the photographs (e.g. taking photos of not just the baby, but zoom in on her hands, feet; taking consecutive frames of the same person; )

Another wonderful book from the "Designing With" range of books. This one shows you how to use all those little things you may have lying around your house (beads, charms, ribbons etc.) As with the other "Designing With" books, I found the spine on the book didn't last too long and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. The book is visually pleasing and has a lot of lovely ideas and pictures. Well worth the purchase. I bought it some years ago and still find myself flipping thorough it on occasion.

I found the first pages with what was needed helpful for a beginner to get started. There are many ideas to choose from and use of things around the house or easily purchased. Only criticism is the font is too small which makes reading the text very tedious.
