NOTE: I have not ask for, nor received, any compensation for anything you're about to read. I just really like Dwight C. McLemore's books and have the following praise to give:

I'm glad I bought both this one and the preceding one. Both books together are designed to serve as a complete training regimen in the combative art of the Bowie Knife in its very early American historical incarnation. But what also needs to be noted here is that the Bowie Knife and its cousin the Buck Knife can still be fully combat-effective in modern warfare, using the same entire fighting philosophy that has always governed combat-use of the American Bowie Knife, from the days when Mr. Bowie himself first conceived this ingenious tool of American personal combat to the modern war on terror in the middle east and beyond.

After all... Is the infamous KABAR knife not the modern incarnation of the Bowie/Buck knife family at its finest? And I can say that, because I too once served in the United States Army and saw a 15-month deployment during the first wave of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Oh sure, the modern Bayonet is a good alternative, but still has a blade profile that falls under the Bowie/Buck knife category. Both that and the KABAR can be used to channel the fine body of techniques taught in both of Dwight C. McLemore's Bowie Knife fighting books. Honestly, I encourage all knife-using members of the U.S. Armed Forces to study and put into practice what Mr. McLemore teaches in these volumes.

If there are any current-enlistment U.S. Armed servicepersons reading this, I implore you to present a copy of each of these two books to your command, or whoever in the U.S. Military's upper echelons makes the decisions on what kinds of combat training gets approved for the modern military. I have yet to see a dedicated Field Manual in print for full Combat Knife instruction the way the infamous 1992 edition of FM 21-150 (U.S. Army Combatives) deals primarily with unarmed combat and then goes on to lightly touch on the knife-bayonet and the folding shovel on a purely precursory level. And I would know, because I have a copy of that manual in my personal combat training library.

Imagine a U.S. Soldier or Marine using the KARAB 'Big Brother' knife with McLemore's techniques from these two books. Imagine how much more efficient the American warrior over seas would be in the close-range bladed combat category, even though we all know our U.S. service men & women still kick plenty of @$$ already, which they do! So add one more advantage to the list, and bring on the rest of America's enemies so they can have their chance at getting a merciful scalping like they deserve. And to you who still serve now, I was there once so I know what you're going through.

My advice: get both of Dwight C. McLemore's Bowie Knife books and train your @$$es off in the lessons & techniques those books teach. And then on your next deployment, you need to have only one thought in your heads on the battlefield when it comes to getting to know your future human pincushion: see terrorist scum, CLEAVE terrorist scum. And to Dwight C. McLemore himself, YOU need to contact the pentagon and negotiate an arrangement to train special instructors to then train the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces in the Bowie Knife techniques your books teach.

And finally, to the U.S. Training Command, you should take a good hard look at these books by the above-named author, and give them serious consideration and experimentation using volunteer military personnel participating in experimental training sessions using Cold Steel black polypropylene training knives or any suitable equivalent, and give the Bowie knife techniques taught in McLemore's Bowie Knife books a try.

And THAT... is my opinion.

I have rated this book at five stars and feel it is a great companion to Mr. McLemore's earlier book. I bought his first book when it was still put out in a 3 ring binder. The drawings are again great but still require a pretty good imagination to follow through step by step. This is not a criticism since I have experienced the same difficulty deciding on photos to accurately describe training sequences in my own book "The Rhythm of One." I too tried to explain how to use the Spanish Circle and I'm not sure that this book is entirely successful at that either. This is a very difficult concept to teach without a live instructor, relying on drawings of foot placement. The concepts in this book are quite advanced and will refine the prospective knife-fighters movements. They define the use of a big knife better than any other book I have read so far. Even if you only learn one technique from this book it is money well spent. If you like big knives be sure you buy both volumes and practice what Mr. McLemore says. I'd like to offer a personal thanks to Mr. McLemore who encouraged me to finish writing my own book "The Rhythm of One" many months ago.

I now own all of Dwight Mclemore's books. This volume expands greatly upon where the first volume left off and like all of his offerings is well written and has very well drawn diagrams and pictures. If you're a Bowie fan, this is a must have and moreso if you have the first volume on bowie fighting. Excellent book!

That well illustrates the decidedly lost art of knife fighting this is more than a martial art book but a history book of sorts as well, if you spend any time at all in the outdoors around big knives and axes and such this would be worth reading in case you ever did have to use one to defend yourself against a wild animal with just a knife, whether it walks on two legs or four :D

A comprehensive and entertaining look at multiple attacker scenarios, finer Bowie points and creative use of the legendary blade.
Utilitarian as well as more intricate instruction.
Detailed and informative illustration.

Got this for hubby because he loves this kind of thing. He enjoys it and he does pick it up and still looks through it. I believe that he would recommend it to anyone out there.
Once again very well done
