The Boston Strangler and the Zodiac Killer are alive and well living amongst the old and dying of the Shady Land Retirement Center. Surrounded by Bingo tournaments and tea times, these two, notorious serial killers quietly trade "war stories" about their golden years — two seemingly parallel pasts filled with violence and victims. But, while friendly on the outside, they're both masters at deception. And when one of them comes clean with a secret, the other struggles internally about...murder! Featuring both critically acclaimed issues of The Roberts, complete with extras, this collection also includes correspondence between the author and serial killers Richard Rodriguez and Charles Manson!

Like my title implies, this story is about the uncaptured Boston Strangler (as new evidence that has surfaced casts major doubts on De Salvo, who confessed to the crimes but was never charged) meeting the uncaptured Zodiac Killer, both ofwhom are residents at a local elderly home & named Robert. The story follws the Strangler, who is a cold loner, however, this gets tested when he "befriends" the over friendly Zodiac, who is a sociopath with a great mask of sanity. At first the Strangler is a bit annoyed by his new buddy, however, once they realize who each other are, they begin talking about their "work", motives, past expolits, even other killers like BTK, Bundy, Gacy & Son of Sam. The story comes to a boil when they challenge each other to a "kill off" of sorts, they pick a victim, then the 1st one to kill her is the winner. In a few days she is dead, but who done it, isn't revealed to the end, which has a great twist that i refuse to give away. Well worth the buy, great writing, humor & artwork, also some letters from Charly Manson & the Nightstalker are included, however, Manson's hand writing is hard to navigate through.

The Roberts is the story of The Boston Strangler and The Zodiac Killer - both of whom were presumed dead and gone - who are both alive and well and actually living amongst the other elderly residents of The Shady Lane Retirement Center. Bored by the mundane goings-on of bingo tournaments and tea times, the two notorious serial killers trade "war stories" of their golden years building to - what Shady described to me once over a phone call as - a serial killer-off.

The trade includes both issues, plus a new four-page story, several awesome pin-ups from good friends of mine, and Justin's letters to - and responses from - real-life serial killers Richard Ramirez (AKA The Night Stalker) and Charles Manson!

And did I mention that Erik Rose inked the covers in his and Shady's blood?

No? Well, he totally did.

And it looks amazing. Erik showed me the originals last year. Wow.

Oh, and I think this goes without saying but I'll say it anyway: unlike Shady's other book, "Missing The Boat" -- but pretty much like ALL his other books -- The Roberts is not an all-ages book and is not suitable for younger readers.

Unless you want to give your seven-year-old bed-wetting night terrors for a few months, in which case, go for it.

...because it scared me so much I made a BM.

I actually got a case of Hep C from the cover of the second issue.

By purchasing this collected volume of the Roberts you actually get a different story than the one I mentioned above. The collected version is the story of The Boston Strangler and The Zodiac Killer living together in a retirement facility (minus the Lemon Party). Also, you don't have to worry about Hepatitis. Talk about a bonus feature!!!

Highly recommended to people who like stories about serial killers, those who find it easy to laugh at the misfortune of others and guys named Robert who like to read about people with the same name. The art is great, too, so (again)...BONUS!
