I am so glad they have reissued these early paperbacks. I haven't seen my copy in 20 years and reading it now, I realise how much I truly missed this book. Bob Clarke & Wallace Wood once again dominate most of the contributions, but now Jack Davis & George Woodbridge have entered the picture in some classic spoofs like "Gunsmoked" and "Success Story". Some early Don Martin graces this issue with some advertising spoofs.

The Mad Family could not exist without Gaines. Responses from readers gave Mad many possible origins for the "What, me worry?" kid. He worries about the well-being of his staff and contributors. Annual bonuses and qualifying for one of the Mad trips depended on your output as a contributor, how many pages you produced. Examples of Mad writers' work: Larry Siegel's Flawrence of Arabia and Put On, Stan Hart's Passion Place, Dick DeBartolo's Ad's We Never Got to See, Arnie Kogen's Howard Hughes' Wallet, and Tom Koch's The National Osographic Magazine.

The new Mad Magazine was, to put it mildly, a sensation. And though Kurtzman left for greener pastures shortly after the revamp, Gaines and Feldstein steered the ship wisely, lending Mad an air of irreverence that sent shock waves through popular culture, and has influenced nearly every comedian and humorist in its wake. Most importantly, Mad's creators realized that by poking fun at the powerful, they themselves were worthy of skewering, creating an air of wild but never-vindictive chaos that permeated each and every page.

THE IDES OF MAD 1961 Paperback Book William M. Gaines Nice EARLY MAD PAPERBACK.

I bought this book back in 4th grade, 1979. Bob Clarke dominates this book with Wallace Wood in a great collection a MAD spoofs. Some really great early Don Martin works, and a first from "Lighter Side's" Dave Berg in "How To Wage Peace". I was so glad to see they've reissued this one as I haven't seen my own copy in 20 years. Very entertaining with a great introduction from Grant Geissman. This reissue should last many years as the book was made durable. Well worth the price. MAD needs to continue reissuing ALL of their paperbacks!! We damand it!
