The Honorable Imposter: 1620. I finished the book just to say I had read something by Gilbert Morris. In a way, The Honorable Imposter was a breath of fresh air because it's so different than all the other Christian historical fiction I've read.

The Honorable Imposter: 1620. The House of Winslow by. Gilbert Morris. Forced by his family to become a minister in the Church of England, Gilbert Winslow is offered a dangerous and challenging task by one of the most powerful nobles in Britain. However, I still wouldn't say this book was good. It was just different.

I feel almost embarrassed to say this was my first Gilbert Morris book, but at least now I know what I've been missing! I have a deep interest in anything having to do with the story surrounding our traditional American Thanksgiving, and I found that Mr. Morris had done his homework well. This is not the story of Thanksgiving, but I chose to read it in October to get my heart and mind ready to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Only three or four men in England could have taken so little heed of Sir Henry North. At the age of forty-five, he stood high on the pyramid of English culture. Except for the Lord Chancellor, the Lord of Lancaster, and King James the First of England, there was none to question his ways-and none who would answer him so casually as this beautiful daughter of his.

House of Winslow series. Book Honorable Imposter. This historical fiction series is AWESOME, and greatly sought after. This book is in a sequence of forty books, and is wonderfully written. Not one of Morris' best! I have read many of the Gilbert Morris' Winslow series and others. This was not one of his best. Many times the story seems to drag. His later books in the series are better, but you need to read this one to understand the beginning of the Winslow family in America. Наиболее популярные в Художественная литература.

The author wove in the fiction with the non-fiction seamlessly, yet spared the reader all the details of the hardship of the journey and mistreatment the group received from the crew of the Mayflower. The characters were quite well-developed and believable, and I feel as though I really got to know most of them. It was a great plot, and the story never seemed to lag. Really, until the very end, who knew which side of the ocean Gilbert Winslow would gravitate to--as well as with whom would he spend his future? Though the trust and good relationship between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoags was part of the story, I would like to have seen a little more of that--just for history's sake. I loved the book and would highly recommend it.

I enjoyed this book very much. It was exciting from start to finish. It took almost the whole book before Gilbert came to know God in a special way. But Humility stood by him a good majority of the time. Even though it was hard for her after Gilbert 's ultimate giving away of the people she was with. Both Gilbert and Humility learned a lot from the older people around them. Gilbert Morris gives you some interesting insight into the books he writes. I have many of his other books that have enjoyed. Historical fiction has always been a favorite of mine. Looking forward to reading more in this series. I've already read book 19 and 20 in this series. Both were good as well. So keep up the good work Mr. Morris.

Even though this is fiction, it does show use how it probably was for many coming to the New World and why - to worship God as their personal Savior & not the secular church of england.
It also shows that we are all sinners & therefore we should never judge someone because they are not living as God wants them to.
Loved reading this.

Since I am a direct Mayflower descendant I especially enjoyed this historical novel. It gave me a better understanding of what our forefathers went through in leaving England and establishing themselves in New England where I still live. Mr. Morris did plenty of research and provides great period information and details that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Watching Gilbert's coming to faith over the course of this novel was realistic and powerful. I look forward to reading more of the books in this series. It's definitely worth reading.

I bought this because I remember reading the series years ago (early 90's), so mostly for nostalgia. However, I do like the historical fiction aspect and the tie-in to church history. It's a bit predictable, but I did enjoy the conflict and wrestling of the protagonist with is faith.

Gilbert Morris is one of my favorite authors, and I have never gotten around to reading The House of Winslow series. What was I waiting for?! This first book is about the Pilgrims and their journey to the New World on the Mayflower. There is plenty of action intermingled with history and romance. I am greatly looking forward to reading more in the series. Historical fiction and Christian fiction lovers would find plenty to like about this book, or if you are just a history buff, there is plenty for you here, too. Thoroughly enjoyable, with lots of "I didn't see that coming" moments. Recommended!
Still In Mind
This book was recommended by my sister-in-law. When I started it, I thought " wow, a Christian bodice-ripper! Who would have thought...." If I were more interested in Christian squeaky clean fiction I would be racing through all the rest of the series to find out what happens to the family over the centuries.
Loved Gilbert Morris. I was so sad when he passed away, and have started collecting his books in ebook form.
