I'm not a fan of writing long reviews so I will keep it short and sweet.

Johnston is very practical and speaks almost entirely from experiences. The book is extremely easy to read. It is written for the typical junior high leader who doesn't have much experience in ministry.

The book has lots of practical tips on how to lead and develop a strong ministry. It also gives several stories of successes and failures.

I would definitely recommend this book to lay leaders in junior high or leaders of junior high with little formal training or experience.

I ordered this book for my youth ministry's all-volunteer Junior High staff. It is incredibly basic! Which is good for new or beginning volunteers. If someone literally has no experience in youth ministry (or even children's ministry) this is a great book for them. Because my staff is a bit more advanced a lot of the information was stuff we already knew. However, I will say this: it is a good read if you are trying to get back to basics or relaunch your middle school ministry.

I would highly recommend this book to new leaders or volunteer leaders. I would recommend it to youth pastors to give away to people who are new staff or new volunteers as required reading before entering into service.

I would not recommend it to someone looking for new ideas or trying to take a ministry to the next level.

This had detailed information that leads me step-by-step in formulating my future plans for our Junior High Ministry. I was really impressed with the way everything was broken down to be simple and to the point. Whenever I lack next steps or vision for my volunteers or parents, I go back to this book. The questions at the end of each chapter were really helpful for me too. It forced me to think about our specific ministry and how I can apply the book's information. I love it!
