When I logged on to the website for this small book, Urodivoi, I was surprised that there weren't any other reviews. It is a worthwhile book of essays written from the heart.

To be honest, when I ordered it, I hadn't read the description, only the title, and I thought it was going to be a book of stories about "Holy Fools," in the tradition of the Desert Fathers. I love those kinds of stories and had looked forward to a pleasant bit of edifying reading.

When the book arrived, I discovered that, instead, it is, as the cover says, "the prophetic call of a modern fool for Christ." The author, Catherine Doherty, calls for us all to become "fools for Christ." To recall that the fundamental truths of Christianity are a counter culture call to reject what so much of society values, and to turn to God. The chapters are very moving and I imagine she must have been a remarkable speaker.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject. I am going to read it again slowly for lent this year. I don't think an earnest reader could leave it without learning a great deal.
