Anyway, Kate was pregnant with Baby Boy when her husband picked up and left her last summer.

And for LOUISE COLLIGAN. Anyway, Kate was pregnant with Baby Boy when her husband picked up and left her last summer. One day he was there, the next day he was gone. Several weeks later Kate met my father, and the rest is history. Someone in the congregation was reading another poem. I never knew Dad and Kate liked poetry so much.

Bummer Summer by Ann M. Martin 5 stars

I grew up reading Ann's Baby-Sitters Club books (mostly the 80s and early 90s stuff). I haven't read any other books by Ann, so receiving this from Netgalley was a great gift. I am looking forward to reading more books. Like Rain Reign, A Corner of the Universe and A Dog's Life are all on my TBR list.

Bummer Summer was good. It was realistic and had a lot of likable characters. Kammy had some pre-teen angst and didn't like changes from her little bubble of a world. Kammy, her father and new family did change; a new Step-Mother (but not like the Evil ones in fairytales that she's knows), a very young new little Step-Sister and a baby Step-Brother.

Kammy then goes on a trip to Summer Camp to escape from the drama at home (unpacking and so on). I have never been to a Summer Camp, so it was fun reading about all the adventures she had there. The description of the camp and there activities was great.

A fun and nostalgic reading.

Yes, summer is supposed to be the best time of year. But why can't it be for Kammy Whitelock? Well, first her dad gets married. His new wife Kate, does not trust Kammy, makes Kammy stay with Muffin and Baby boy, [Kate's two kids] and it looks like she's just trying to send Kammy away. Then there's her two kids. Muffin flushes Kammy's paints down the toilet, almost strangles her cat, and throws up on Kammy! Baby boy on the other hand, cries for hours, and her dad and Kate are always attending to them. Then, when her dad and Kate suggest that Kammy go away to Camp Arrowhead, Kammy decides it wont be worse then staying home. But camp is a disaster! Now the question is, what can Kammy do to save her summer!?

Bummer Summer Ann M Martin April.2014 Kindle Edition

This is a great book for eight to twelve year olds or those who are simply young at heart.

Kamillia is facing a lot of changes a new Mother a little sister and a baby brother when her father remmarries she is not ready to face any of this including the camp she really does not want to go to. By the time her two week trial period is over and her parents come for visiting day she decides to stay.

I give this book five stars and though it is a rerelease of a book released in 1983 it is relatable to todays children as well...

"Summer is supposed to be the best time of the year. But this summer looks like a total loss to Kammy Whitlock. First, her Dad gets married again. Then, his new wife Kate books in, and Kammy has to put up with her two children. They won't leave Kammy alone! Three-year-old Muffin flushes Kammy's best paints down the toilet, almost strangles her cat, and the baby cries for hours at a time. Camp has always sounded hateful. But when Dad and Kate suggest that Kammy go away to Camp Arrowhead, Kammy figures it can't be worse than staying home. How wrong can a person be? Arrowhead is a disaster. Now the only question is: what can Kammy do to save the summer from being a total bummer?" This is a brief synopsis of "Bummer Summer," Ann M. Martin's first book. Martin, who is better known for her prolific "Baby-sitters Club" series, deals realistically and sensitively with the subjects of divorce and re-marriage and of changing lives in general. Kammy is an interesting character, sarcastic yet sympathetic, and gives the book much of its humor. I wish someone would put this book back into print!

Are you out of good books to read? Then try Bummer Summer by Ann Martin. This book is mainly about a girl named Kammy, whose mother died when she was only four. Later on, when Kammy is ten, her father decides to re-marry a woman named Kate, who has a three year old daughter named Muffin, and a new baby. As soon as Kate married, chaos overcame the house. The baby was constantly crying and worst of all; Muffin decides to flush down Kammy's entire paint set down the toilet! While trying to settle in, Kate and Kammy's father sent Kammy to Camp Arrowhead where she faced many challenges such as bad food, finding distant bathrooms, and a very mean camper. Realistic fiction is my favorite genre, especially when the main character's life is filled with drama and struggle. I think this book is very exciting and I strongly recommend it to girls only around age 10, 11, or 12. I find myself reading this book over and over again, and I think you will too.

I loved this book when I was nine years old because I really looked up to the title character, Kammy Whitlock, a confused twelve-year-old with a widowed father. At the time, I didn't know anyone who had had to live in a stepfamily, so I was very interested in how Kammy got along with her stepmother and stepsister and baby stepbrother. I also had had a bad experience with camp, and it was reassuring to know I wasn't the only one who would rather be at home reading a book than in a camp full of snotty girls who were always mean to me. This is a cute, engaging story that's great for an afternoon read.

I loved this book when I was younger! I actually read it in the summer time. This book was so interesting and funny and the main character had such a great personality and it showed how at times, when everything seems like it's going wrong in life, which seems like always in a kids life, you have to be optimistic!
