Vim is a toy rag mouse, whose life is uneventful until the day he is seized from the windowsill by a cat. He then begins a series of adventures, but eventually returns safely to his other toy friends. The author has also written "Joseph's Other Red Sock" and "Leo's Christmas Surprise". The adventures are an arbitrary sequence of ups-and-downs which involve a cranky teacher and a petty crook and result, by an unlikely coincidence, in Vim's return to his windowsill with lots and lots to tell

The stuffed mouse in this story is snatched from a windowsill by a cat, left in a puddle, rescued by a trash collector, taken to school by the trash collector's little girl, confiscated by the teacher, stolen by a robber and returned at last to his own windowsill as the robber is caught breaking into the premises. SIDELIGHTS: Nicholas "Niki" Daly first became involved in drawing by using pencil stubs handed down from an uncle who painted watercolor pictures. Daly has donated a portion of his earnings from books sold in the United States to South African charities, among them the organization READ, which established school lending libraries in South Africa's black townships.
