I remember reading these when I was a kid and was glad to see Encyclopedia back with some new stories.

They are great because they make you CONCENTRATE on the stories to find the clues to solve the mysteries. My son and I take turns, each reading a page aloud, until we get to the end of the story then we discuss what we think happened and why. Sometimes we are right and sometimes we are wrong. It's alot of fun and it helps him learn to "find the details" in the stories.

If you have a grade/middle school child, I'd highly recommend any of these books.

Not what I expected - either in content or format. Would not buy another.

Another great series of Encyclopedia Brown stories where the boy detective applies logic and deduction to solve intriguing challenges. Lots of fun to read with children.
grand star
The family loves to guess the mysteries together at bedtime. Not all of these stories left good clues to figure out, but there were enough to make it worth the purchase and good reading.

I really love the Encyclopedia Brown Books. I really enjoy seeing them on the Kindle and they are fun little puzzler stories to read to my kids and see if they can solve them. Can't say enough how enjoyable the logic that some of the thinking that goes on with these stories is great teaching tool for my kids as well.
So why the two star listing? Well the formatting sucks and sucks harder than a brand new Hoover vacuum on a shag carpet. There is no link between the solution and the story nor the next story in the series. So you have either have to create a link to the solutions individually for each of the or create a link to the solutions chapter and then flip back to the stories. This is an issue that nearly all of the Penguin Ebook editions published today have had. It is annoying and aggravating since this should have been something easily created when the book was originally ported over to an ebook standard. I mean I have seen self-published books in similar genres that have hot links going back and forth between solutions or maps or appendices over to the main text. So that is why the two star listing.

My grandson, age 8, started reading The Encyclopedia Brown series this past summer. I've just ordered him 4 more from Amazon as Christmas gifts.
He absolutely loves the books and the fact that there are 3 different stories and mysteries to solve in each book. And his Mom and I like the fact
that the books are so reasonable to purchase..average 4.99 per book. I would highly recommend them...he hasn't read one he didn't like yet!
I love reading these books with my 9-year-old son. We can read them all night long trying to guess the solution to the mysteries
