Lois Gladys Leppard (1924-2008) worked in Federal Intelligence for thirteen years in various countries around the world before she settled in South Carolina. The stories of her own mother's childhood as an orphan in western North Carolina are the basis for many of the incidents incorporated in this series. The Mandie collection has been around for years and it still is a great read for ages 9-14. These stories are set in the South at the turn of the century and Lois Gladys Leppard has done an excellent job of introducing mystery and intrigue in a gentle yet interesting way. A refreshing read.

My 10 yr old daughter loves this series. She has read three of them so far. She can't put the book down and usually finishes the whole collection in less than two weeks. We catch her reading with a flash light under her blankets when she's supposed to be sleeping.

The Mandie collection has been around for years and it still is a great read for ages 9-14. These stories are set in the South at the turn of the century and Lois Gladys Leppard has done an excellent job of introducing mystery and intrigue in a gentle yet interesting way. A refreshing read.

When I was about 10 yrs old, I received the first, original box set of books 1-5 in the series and was hooked! (that was about 20 yrs ago :) I was fortunate to have a friend who collected the entire series, so I was able to borrow the new sets from her or from our local library. Now I have a niece who is nearing the age that she would enjoy these mysteries so I wanted to have the entire collection to read together with her and/or let her borrow. I LOVE the fact that the series is now volumes bound in 1 book (5 books in 1) so that it is fewer individual books to keep track of. Also, there is something to be said for the accomplishment of reading a book that is over 300 pgs. when you are so young. I have to admit that I am looking forward to re-reading the entire series myself, maybe even before I introduce them to my niece!

I ordered this Mandie collection for my 11 year old daughter who thoroughly enjoys them! Not only is there a continued exciting story but there is historical accuracy too, along with a moral lesson. The stories take place in the 1800s through the early 1900s. The Bible is quoted throughout and you watch as Mandie displays a very good Chrisian character by depending on her faith in Christ through very hard times and good times. My daughter is comfortable reading this series because it is not worldly and she can relate with Mandie in her faith in Christ.

My daughter started reading her first Mandie book in third grade for AR reading for school. She has loved and devoured every Mandie book ever since! She consistently scores 100s on AR tests with these books and it raises her language arts grade as a result. Worth more, helluva lot more, than what I paid.

This book is awesome! Great for kids who are just beginning to read long chapter books. It's filled with tragedy,adventure, & comedy. I would read the other two books first though,just to catch up.
It also I good for school cause there's Cherokee kinpeaple,and president McKinly. Also a Christian book. Thank you! -A HUGE Mandie fan! :)
