In January, Samantha writes Santa a friendly thank-you note, confiding her pleasure in the knitting needles and yarn he brought and asking after his reindeer. In February, he replies: no, he and Mrs. Claus don't know how to knit, and the littlest reindeer is poorly. So it goes, month by month, as the two exchange notes on polar animals, including a bear Samantha knows about in a nearby zoo (& he was dreaming of snow''). Wild brings a deal of thought to her carefully crafted, simple seeming story; Argent's appealing realistic illustrations glow with life and color.

A little girl becomes Santa's pen pal throughout the course of one year and learns some interesting facts about polar animals
Reviews about Thank You, Santa (3):
Samantha lives in Australia and it's January and she's sick in bed with a cold and writes Santa to thank him for knitting needles & balls of wool. She ends her letter asking Santa if he had a nice Christmas and asks how the reindeer are. Come February Samantha gets a letter from Santa thanking her for her lovely letter and says how he doesn't often get letters from children after Christmas. Santa says he hopes she's feeling better and that one of his reindeers has a runny nose and bad cough. And so begins a pen pal relationship between the Santa and Samantha. She asks him about animals at the North Pole and tells him she's going to knit a sweater for the reindeer and write a book for Santa on how to knit.

I really like this book because it shows someone actually writing Santa to say thank you for the gifts and for seeing what it's like to live in Australia and being in the middle of winter in JULY! Truly strange for our family because we live in Florida and it's warm in July. The pages are illustrated very nicely, one one side of the page is a white letter dated with the month and then has a nice illustaration.
Sweet book about pen pals and about gratitude all year long.
Great book on all fronts!
