The Devil and his Boy. On the Scaffold.
The Devil and his Boy. I hated history when I was at school. Although she had allowed her Maids of Honour to lead her into the bedroom and help her undress more than an hour before, she hadn’t even tried to sleep. Part of the trouble, of course, was being Queen of England. She could still feel the crown on her head even when she wasn’t wearing i. here was so much to think about, so much to do. But the real problem was her bed.

The Devil and His Boy is a 1998 young adult novel by Anthony Horowitz. The book is set in Tudor times and follows the adventures of a young boy as he meets several influential people from that time period. The book follows Thomas "Tom" Falconer, a young and somewhat naive boy that works at a pub and is mistreated by his caretakers, Sebastian and Henrietta Slope. The boy was about twelve or thirteen years old. Nobody knew or cared when exactly he had been born. He had long, reddish-brown hair, pale skin and bright, intelligent blue eyes. The man dragged his luggage from behind his saddle and handed the reins to Tom. He was about to turn away but suddenly he stopped and for a moment Tom found himself being examined by two narrow, grey eyes in a dark, weathered face. What’s your name, boy? the man demanded.
I can always rely on Anthony Horowitz to write an entertaining book. I wouldn't say Devil is my favourite book by him, but it was so fun. I love how Horowitz describes every character in such a detailed, original way that they become more believable and you love/hate them even more (usually the latter).

Anthony Horowitz is famous for his series Alex Rider. I myself am a fan of the books. Despite the best efforts of the author, "The Devil and His Boy" seems very modern. I was suprised to find out how much of the story Horowitz claims he "based on fact. The first five were beleiveable and got cornier as they went but still kept my attention. That is the kind of writter Anthony Horowitz is and always will be. He will write things that will grab your attention in parts and in parts make you say, "what is he thinking?" This book was like that. The characters aren't well-developed, and the book treats the themes of morality and honesty very lightly.

Tom had heard it twenty or more times but listening to it now from behind the screen, he barely understood a word of it. It was as if there were a wind rushing through his ears. His mouth was dry. There was no feeling in his arms or legs. He was, he realized, terrified. He was about to go on the stage in front of Queen Elizabeth and her court. He wondered if his legs would be able to move when his cue came. Not for the first time, he wished he had never left Framlingham. Even life with the Slopes had been better than this
