Kathleen's Story, Raina's Story, Holly's Story. In Breathless, my characters face this quandary and make difficult choices. Ultimately we all make choices in life, both good and bad. These decisions shape our character and create our life paths.

Kathleen's Story, Raina's Story, Holly's Story. Most choices do not involve life and death. The choices in Breathless do. I hope you will give this novel about euthanasia serious thought. I'm still pondering the topic myself.

Read story Breathless -Lurlene McDaniel by BarbaraCastrejon (Barbara Castrejon) with 2,100 reads  . This is a book I’ve wanted to write for a long time, well over ten years. What intrigues me about the subject of euthanasia is the ethical dilemma it poses. I know, however, that a novel is built on characters and plot, and until recently the characters hadn’t come together in my head. The plot hadn’t jelled in my heart. Finally it did and I wrote Breathless. What excited me then and still does now is the difference between ethics and morality.

Breathless by Lurlene McDaniel. I apparently picked the wrong book when I thought this was Breathless by Jessica Warman. it was an ebook library!!!) It has nothing to do with that book apparently. The setting for this book is Alexander, Alabama and the main characters are Travis Morrison, Cooper, Darla and Emily. Travis and Cooper are best friends, Emily is Travis' sister and Darla is Travis' girlfriend. I kind of found that out when I finished this book. Surprisingly, I could not put Breathless down, even though it was the wrong book. Breathless is a contemporary novel about euthanasia. FYI, it's assistance when one wants to commit suicide. Joyful story, is it not?

What is the toughest request anyone can be asked to fulfill?Travis Morrison is a champion diver and one of the most popular kids at school. On the first day of summer vacation, while boating on the lake with his friends, Travis attempts a silly stunt dive that goes wrong. He fears he has broken his leg. Instead, his trip to the hospital reveals he has a rare form of cancer, and to save him, the doctors tell his parents they must amputate. In an instant, Travis’s life and the lives of everyone around him are forever changed. Travis is determined that he and only he should decide the course of his life. He has a plan, but he can’t carry it out alone. Will he convince one of his friends to fulfill his most important request? One of my favorite books I picked up randomly at the library about 8-9 years ago. I had to google what I remembered about the book to find it. I just had to have a physical copy and read it again. For me, she made me feel what everyone was feeling and had me longing for a friendship like theirs. It's a book that made me realize what it means to love someone and how far you are willing to go to show them that.

I loved this book.. A very powerful message. You really never know what you'll do until the situation presents itself. The characters were great. The author was able to make connect to each of them right away. Travis great athlete, he is diagnose with cancer.. Coop, Emily, Travis & Darla embark in life changing event.

This book has a very powerful story that grabs you right from the beginning. In style, Lurlene McDaniel is similar to Jodi Picoult -- she often selects difficult subjects with morally ambiguous elements and also tends to write books from the perspective of multiple different characters. The book was much shorter than a typical Jodi Picoult book but covered a lot of the same types of issues. Although I found the subject matter incredibly depressing, I also found the book thought-provoking and interesting. I really liked all of the different characters in this book. In some ways, I would have liked if she had also added the mother's perspective but I understand why she limited it to the four major characters. I also like that she didn't ram the moral aspects of the issues down your throat -- they are well developed but the reader is left to draw a lot of their own conclusions and form their own judgments.
