Bad Sunny
This book is so old that many parents, and most children, will not be able to relate to the life style it describes. Which is too bad, because the description of Ramona's emotions is so great. The book is the best I have ever read at taking me back (70 years) to what that age felt like. It also relates the feelings to what happened to Ramona, and how she interpreted it. It shows how important it is for kids to be around people who they know care about them. This is one of the things is think is so bad for today's kids about modern schools and places kids are, where the "attendants" do not relate to them as individuals, either because they are teachers focused on test results or other externalities, or caretakers at daycare or such who don't care, or parents or others who are more concerned with their phone I would recommend this book to parents and grandparents who just don't get why kids react as they do, and also for anyone who wants to know what a supportive environment for children looks (and feels) like.

I teach 4 and 5 year olds and am constantly looking for ways to introduce them to chapter books as read alouds. I thought I'd try Ramon the Pest and it's right up there with My Father's Dragon and Chocolate Fever. Ramona holds their attention and makes us all laugh. Sometimes I start laughing before I even finish reading the current section to them. It's also a wonderful book to practice comprehension skills. We predict what she is going to do and that adds to the fun of the story. There are some great parts where Ramona's poor choice leads to bigger problems and the children have the chance to talk about what has happened and what went wrong with Ramona's actions. On multiple levels this is an excellent book. We are doing a library display for our school and part of it are Ramona hands with pink worm engagement rings. Who could ask for more from a book.

I was assigned a Beverly Cleary book for Beverly Cleary' s one hundredth birthday. I had been assigned Ramona the pest for a week. I thought since it was a lower level book, it would be boring.
Boy, was I wrong! After school, when we want home, so noticed that I left my Ramona The Pest at school! I told my mom and asked if I could buy the kindle version. I usually hate reading online books but I soon learned that not only the kindle version is easier to read and able to zoom in, that at every break in the book, it adapts to my learning speed! I recommend this book to any reader that has the same reading level, or even above. You may overlook this book at first, but you'll get sucked into the story and enjoy it as much as you did or would have at a lower level.

It's about a five-year-old girl who is starting kindergarten. I read it as a bedtime story to my kids when they were young. Through the years, I've repeated many of the phrases that Ramona used in the book. Now, as a grandmother, I purchased the book to have on hand for my grandchildren when they come to visit. Moreover, I read it aloud to my husband (a few pages at a time) before going to bed, and we both laughed right out loud many times.

My neice and her mom read this book and they loved it....I read this book to my sons when they were small and they loved it. Beverly Cleary books are some of the best. This book was delivered on time and in great shape.

Reading this book again after almost 50 (!) years, I was struck by how ahead of its time it was. In the days of Dick and Jane, here was a story about a headstrong little girl who talked back, misbehaved, and made up her own mind. Still funny and a joy to read.

I love all the Ramona books. I read them to my children and I recently bought the kindle version to read to my granddaughters on vacation. A note of praise for Kindle. If I hadn't had one, I wouldn't have had access to the book on the spur of the moment. Anyway, I think Ramona reminds me of myself as a child. She thinks a lot. She is eager to learn. And she's definitely in the 'mythic/literal" stage. So life keeps tripping her up. On the other hand, she's delighted when Henry takes a wheel off her tricycle because now she has a 'two wheeler' and she rides it without self-consciousness. It is a delightful book for children who have to navigate the increasingly adult world of school. Lots of laughs and lots of empathy.
Got this for an 8 year old. Her birthday is in two days, and I know she'll love it. She's already read two in the series.
