Reviews about Rascal: A Dog and His Boy (6):

My 3rd grader was assigned this book to read. Not only is it difficult for a grown adult to follow due to the fact is is written in the first person and entirely in what I assume to be a Cajun dialect but comes awfully close to ebonics, it has several scenes in it I would deem inappropriate for an 8 year old.
In a world where kids speak in nothing but slang, I do not feel that using a book not written in decent English is a good idea for the education of our young people.
It did have a good storyline and overrall message but it's not something I would recommend for young readers.

Even books for a 12year old should be interesting and believable.
This book succeeded, and adds humor to the gumbo.

I didn`t actually realise that I would love this book from the first letter. It is perfect for any dog lover (Probably ten years like me) and has the perfect ending. I would rate it more if I could.

It's fitting that Cajun artist George Rodrigue did the wonderful cover art for this charming story of Rascal the beagle and all his friends in Cajun country!

Great book for a boy who just got a dog. I am sending this to my Grandson in Switzerland, and I wish I could be there to see him reading this to his new puppy. Thank You
