Advent Storybook book. The beloved, bestselling readaloud storybook. Benjamin Bear cannot. Marisa Miller (Translation). For this advent book, you'll read a short story each day - just a handful of paragraphs tell a quick story about Benjamin Bear's continued journey to Bethlehem to see the Child. Each story has an entire page spread, a different adventure, and ends with a nugget of Christian truth to ponder. I have mixed feelings about this read.

I would not recommend this book. My children are 5, 11, 14. We have used this book for three advent seasons. I am done with this book and will be donating it.

Pros:
1. Well written.
2. Nice size story for each night of advent to go along with our other advent activities.
3. A little bear is following the Star to Bethlehem.
4. The pictures are lovely

Cons:
1. Day 13 the picture shows bloody footprints in the snow leading to a dog house and a dog. The story reveals a thorn was in a dog's paw. My 11 year old remembered that page from the past and asked me to skip that day this year.
2. Day 14 states that a robber plans to rob and kill the little bear and lamb and it discusses this throughout the story that day. I only said "rob" as I read the story. The robber changed his mind, but I find the story disturbing and it is not clear to me how this is something we should be reading as we are preparing for advent.

As we are reading this book this year, I am wondering why I am using a book I am not completely comfortable with. I plan to look for a different book.

I bought this when my daughter was 4 and have read every year at bedtime for the past 6 years. It is a beautiful book with touching stories for reflection. We have enjoyed very much! Excellent at explaining the true meanings of Chirstmas. My daughter looks forward to it, asking to read it even after all these years.

Starts December 1st with a short story for each day. From the perspective of a mother & baby bear during bedtime story time (which is when we read it). We light advent candles as well and read a few other advent books purchased on Amazon: Advent devotions for busy families; Welcome baby Jesus; We light the candles.

I got this book to read with our children during Christmas advent and everyone has loved it! My husband who is Greek Orthodox took over reading it with them and he's loved the messages it sends and lessons it teaches. Our son's Sunday School teacher was impressed with something my son quoted from the book, which was, "To answer the question, 'where is God', you must first answer 'where isn't God'" Profound and beautiful at the same time, and understandable for our 6 and 8 year olds. Even younger children will enjoy the illustrations and quick, daily stories that help count down to Christmas. A treasure!

My Son loves me reading this to him at night leading up to Christmas. I also enjoy reading these stories to him. Each of the stories are only a page long and very good for those with young children who might not want to sit still for a very long time. There is a Advent Calendar that you can get to go along with the book. Also, it is design so you can also read each of the stories as a bedtime story. I also found these stories entertaining for adults and the whole family. The book was delivered on time and in great condition. Very Happy!!

This book gets a 5 star rating. The book is sturdy, the pictures are detailed and hold a child's attention, and the story is marvelous. Advent Storybook As with most books, you have the option to look inside. I read this to my grandughter and she absolutely loved it. She continues to bring the book to me to read again and again.

I was looking for an anthology of short Christmas stories so I could read one to my kids each day. This sounded perfect, but I'm a little disappointed because each day's reading is more like a thought or journal entry than a story. It describes what bear sees when he opens his own advent calendar and then has a short (1/2-2/3 page) entry describing who bear meets that day and what they do together. Then, it ends with Bear asking his mother a question and she answers with the moral of the story. It feels kind of Aesop's fables to me--a little forced. It's a sweet and imaginative concept, the "stories" are a good length, and I can see it being a nice tradition with young kids, but you DO need the advent calendar IMO. Then your kids will see what Bear is described as seeing in his own advent calendar and your kids will be able to relate to the book better. I didn't buy it because I read on another review that you can enjoy the book fine without it. I think perhaps I'll make a reuseable one of my own and try this from the beginning next year (I tried to start after the first of December and it's not very easy to start in the middle either). The illustrations are beautiful and it arrived when it was supposed to.
What a perfectly wonderful book to enhance Advent for younger ones. My kiddos are 5 & 2 and they enjoyed reading this each night on the 24 days leading up to Christmas. Basically it's a short little story about a bear on a journey to Jesus and each night you read about something he encounters along the way and a lesson learned about God. Little Benjamin bear travels and meets wonderful characters as he follows the star to Mary and Joseph. I am so glad I bought this book and it will become a wonderful tradition to read to my little one each Christmas. It is definitely worth buying
