This book helped explain a condition very close to home in our family. It also opened up discussions within the family.

My daughters & I love this book! My 3 year old has lost much of her hair due to alopecia and this is a great book for very young kids & older kids, too.

I skimmed through this book at a thrift shop and bought it thinking it would be valuable for my daughter's school library. Unbeknownst to me my 5 yr old (she's an advanced reader) read it to herself and fell in love with it. When I mentioned that it was for her school she was bereft, until I said that she could certainly keep it and enjoy it as long as she wants to. She'd said something about how ppl would think ..something if she had no hair. I told her that she'd be mighty pretty without hair, but ppl would likely think she was being treated for cancer or had alopecia.
"Like Princess Alopecia?!?"
"...oh! Like in the book? You read the book?"
"Yes, I LOVE it." She enthused.
"Oh. Good.. I got that book for your school."
Cutting me off, "Nooo! I love it..."

So.., despite the negative criticism in the product description, I have a smart 5 yr old, with no connection whatsoever to alopecia, who independently loves Princess Alopecia and now knows something about the disorder and who shall likely be understanding and kind when she encounters a child without hair.
