Saxon math programs produce confident students who are not only able to correctly compute, but also to apply concepts to new situations. These materials gently develop concepts, and the practice of those concepts is extended over a considerable period of time. This is called "incremental development and continual review." Material is introduced in easily understandable pieces (increments), allowing students to grasp one facet of a concept before the next one is introduced. Both facets are then practiced together until another one is introduced. This feature is combined with continual review in every lesson throughout the year. Topics are never dropped but are increased in complexity and practiced every day, providing the time required for concepts to become totally familiar. Reviews about Saxon Math 7/6: Homeschool Set/Box (7):
PLEASE READ!! We homeschool two children. Our eldest (12-years old) is currently at the end of her coursework w/the BOB JONES 6TH GRADE MATH program. Since the upcoming 7th grade school year is soon upon us, I decided to go ahead and purchase next year's math program early. Although we've had wonderful success with the Bob Jones 6th grade math curriculum, I wanted to give Saxon a try, because I really like how they break down their explanations into basic terms that my daughter comprehends as an older student. PLUS, Saxon is a bit more affordable than the BJ math programs. That's important too.

Having said that, we looked at the online quiz provided by Saxon to ascertain which level our daughter is at, and ultimately decided to purchase the SAXON MATH 7/6 books. In a nutshell, the 7/6 level is pretty much REVIEW of what BJ's 6th grade math level is. So if your child successfully mastered BJ's 6th grade math, and are thinking of trying out a Saxon program, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you consider Saxon's 8/7 program, which is the next step up.

Truly wish Saxon would let shoppers look at the "table of contents" of their books prior to purchasing, which would make it easier to select the appropriate product for their child.
These are awesome! I started homeschooling 4 weeks ago and really needed a math curriculum that would teach me as well as my son! I called around for a class my son could take because I didn’t think I was gonna get this math stuff. They informed me that they use Saxon Math and for me to take the free assessment. My son took the assessment and we bought the books. They are wonderful to work with. Warm up, Mental math, problem solving, New concept, and practice and then your daily assignment. Very detailed on how to do the math and so it was very easy for me to teach. I just bought the Saxon Grammer for my English and am very excited about getting that also and trying it out.
Saxon is the best. Period. End of story.

Our kids do math every day of the week all year round - so they do this program in very small pieces over the course of a year --- very easy for them to keep on track.

Our kids also took the dreaded Common Core test in New York State for the last three years. We never looked into the test or worried about it - and our kids all scored in the top 15th percentile.

Saxon Math gets the job done.
I love Saxon Math as it actually teaches math leaving nothing out. It also routinely has the student work with past lessons offering opportunities for the student to constantly use what he has already learned. I have been using these products for about 15 years now and all of my students KNOW their math.
generation of new
My 5th grader is working on 6th & 7th grade math, all on his own, because of this book. Very easy to understand, and a better presentation of concepts than what is used in Oregon schools (common core).
I'm a tutor and use a lot of different math curriculum. Saxon Math is definitely my favorite. It's clear, complete, and doesn't seem to be riddled with errors like wrong answers, which is a problem with many math texts. Also, I like the dry humor evident in the story problems. This helps keep students engaged and laughing, which is a very good thing.
This is the best homeschool resource and teaching material available. Easy to use and understand. Works well with the home schooler and goes over everything in detail. Will continue to use Saxon products for both Math and English!!!!
We've been using Saxon for a while and are pleased with the results. We particularly like that our kids have to practice concepts repeatedly so they don't get lost in their little minds.
