When Goose hears the other farm animals talking about a mountain lion, she worries lest it suddenly fancy a spot of goose for supper. However, the invader seems more interested in Goose's offspring, for next morning one of her "clutch of four creamy-white eggs" has disappeared. That night the goat stands guard but another egg goes missing, until one by one all the farm animals have stood sentinel and all the eggs have vanished. Kindergarten-Grade 3-When Goose's eggs begin to disappear, the barnyard animals fear that a mountain lion has been on the prowl. They take turns watching out for it, not noticing that it is a pack rat who is the real culprit.

Louie the Mountain Lion is an occasional enemy of Donald Duck and Goofy in the theatrical cartoons for which they appear in. Louie is buffoonish and sometimes grumpy. His cartoons often see him chasing after either Donald Duck or Goofy. Louie, along with Humphrey the Bear, appears in the episode "Bearing Up Baby", where he attempts to attack Humphrey and the Rescue Rangers.

The moon was bringing out fantastic tangles of shadow everywhere, and for a moment. Johnny felt a line of ragged punctures made by the mountain lion’s claws. Johnny thought the coyote was one of them. Then Brad yelled Hey, look OUT! and the girl fired almost at once. Steam began to rise from its fur, and the stench rose with it. A moment or two later, those thick pink streams began to ooze out of its liquefying corpse. Johnny and Brad set Jim Reed’s body gently down. Blood had soaked through the cotton enough for it to squelch under Johnny’s fingers. The thing that did this to me wasn’t cigarette smoke, Steve said.

My 5 year old grandson loves this author's books/illustrations. I do , too. Very imaginative, and "up to date" for todays young readers.

My children have had this book probably since 1994 when it was first published. It is a book that has been read so many times it is beginning to fall apart. I do different voices for all of the animals, which the kids love. The story is humorous & entertaining. The pictures are beautiful and if the kids look closely they will know who is really taking the goose's eggs. I highly recommend this book!
