For those that grew up on Encyclopedia Brown books. This is the adult version, where we have murder, fraud, and deception; instead of scams and theft as in the Brown Books. There is no central cast, rather a bit of different players in each story. The stories are about a page or two in length and some of them are challenging. The biggest difficulty lies in how the author is Canadian and uses some different English language words for things that an American wouldn't recognize right away. There are other stories that due depend on the understanding of minute bits of trivia to help solve. Those are the two biggest things that make this a 3.5-4 star book. However, they are still good to read and see if you can spot the answers. This book is nice since there are hot links between the answers and the stories so you can easily flip back and forth from the stories and the answers.

Great for around the campfire. Warning, although this is entertaining as an added distraction to let's say sitting around a campfire, most of the mysteries are either extremely easy to solve OR so outlandish that you would have never picked up on the subtle hints in the story which result in a more elaborate conclusion in the end

As the writer is Canadian, too many plots are dependent on being familiar with Canadian localism, so that plot solutions can be a reach for readers outside of Canada.

My son hated this book and we gave up on it about a quarter of the way through.

You can't go wrong with this series. We enjoy getting the family together and reading them outloud. Gets the kids away from the video games and TV. Many are really challenging but someone usually figures them out in the end.

Love to read these at night. Short stories with a solution in the back if you get stuck

I have used other mystery books in the past, but this one is my favorite for working with senior citizens.
My daughter loves this series of books. It keeps her entertained and she brings some interesting conversations to the dinner table for all of us to help solve.
