If you love James Herriot, you will love this book. McCormack relates tales that actually happened when he was a vet in rural Alabama. While he does see the humor in many situations and displayed by the quirks of rural Southerners, he always treats those he's talking about with respect, and points out their positives along with their flaws.

This book is funny, interesting, and heart-warming. It would also be excellent as a read-aloud for the whole family.

If you like farming, veterinary work, or just like stories about animals, this books is a great choice.

A read this book YEARS ago and I had to get me a new copy. It's just as wonderful now as then. Butler, Alabama, a small border (Mississippi right over the ridge) farm community and this city-educated vet gets eye openers all the time. If you love animals, you will love this book -- and his others. Now, I have three of them and think there is one more in the series. Gotta read it.

Here again Dr. McCormack looks at his life and laughs at himself and many circumstances he encountered working as a new vet in Alabama. The reader has a great southern accent which easily draws you into the stories. I love listening to audio books as I drive and have listened to this one multiple times. Excellent.

A continuation of John's experiences in his small town veterinarian practice. An entertaining book, chapter by chapter. Would recommend John's books to anyone who has come from a small town, and or loves animals.
