This book surprised me in a positive way. The intricate details of his past 80+ years are incredibly and meticulously recounted with details that left me with the impression he either has a phenomenal memory or took copious notes over the years or both. As it turns out he had assistance recalling details but this still is an incredible account. Mr Graham's human shortcomings and fears as well as his mistakes are all included, particularly near the end of the book when he shares on what he would do differently if he could live his life over. There are some surprises there. I especially appreciated the candidness in the areas of what went on behind the scenes of his life and ministry. I also appreciated the personal standards for ministry [pps. 128-129] he established in the early years with his staff to avoid scandal, a standard he kept through the years leading to the respect he has earned to this day. It is a page-turner and reads easily and holds your attention. For an autobiography this was a pleasant surprise and a pleasure to read. I learned a lot from it. His life has been nothing short of amazing as you read about the unbelievable travels and things that happened along the way, his private reflections and incidents that have taken place over the years. You will understand Billy Graham in a new way. You may leave with a complete new image of Billy Graham.

A powerful example of what Christ and his gospel can do in an ordinary person's life. Loaded with interesting anecdotes about various people Graham met, places he went, and events he experienced. The book could have used a bit of editing. Instead of the sometimes repetitive stories of Graham's travels and Crusades, that space could have been devoted to his own personal development over the years and family life.

The first chapters of Graham's book are a picture of farm and Depression-era life that you may recall hearing about from your (great) grandparents. Graham's adventurous spirit (and that of his generation) comes through clearly: trading pantyhose for hotel rooms in postwar Europe is one memorable anecdote. As he builds his ministry, the sheer volume of work and travel he accomplishes is impressive. The interaction with US presidents at key moments in history is also very impressive, as is his stance on keeping out of political endorsements as much as he can. I've heard a preacher say Graham is "the closest thing we [Protestants] have to a Pope" and reading this it's easy to understand why. As a Christian and person who enjoys reading about US history, I thought this was a great book. If I had to give the book a criticism, it would be that crediting a bunch of people for helping out at specific events adds a lot of length. This book takes some time to get through. But at the same time this is a hard criticism to make, since this is his biography and Mr. Graham is trying to show the team effort as much as possible.

very interesting early years growing up and some embarrassing lessons learned. A man with determination and steadfast belief.
Well written, flows, easy to get lost in it and miss the bus. I ignored Billy Graham my whole life although i was always aware of him and his message. My Mother and Aunt were fans. He was always there when the nation was in a crisis. I find now that he is gone, I miss him. The book has some flaws just as the man but in the end...The book is a good book about a good man.

I found this book really awe inspiring. Billy Graham had such an amazing life - particularly being chaplain to the Presidents of America. He shared the gospel with millions of people around the world. He had such an amazing impact on so many peoples lives. I would certainly recommend that every Christian read this book.

I bought the paper version 10 years ago, gave it to a friend after I read it. I got the audible and kindle version this time. It is still a very exciting story second and third time around. The audible doesn't contain all the material in the book.
What an amazing life this gentleman has lived by saying yes to Jesus Christ almost 80 years ago now! This autobiography not only details the many highlights of a man of God who literally stood before kings, it is a treatise on how to walk intimately in obedience and trust with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And does Jesus take Mr. Graham on an adventure! From a quiet childhood working hard on his father's dairy farm, Mr. Graham truly takes the reader around the world and back many times over as he details some of the crusades he held and some of the key decisions he made along the way. He has some regrets but that shows the humility of the man. If you are yearning to sit at the feet of a solid follower of Jesus Christ and learn how to walk with God daily and live a life of victory that helps other people, read this book.
